For the active holiday maker there is a lot to do in this area. In your villa we have a map with tourist maps, guides and general information but we will be pleased to be able to advise and help you on a more personal basis with anything you may need to know or help you to initiate contacts.
The surroundings are ideal for making walks and excursions varying from small walks of an hour or so to full day hikes. There are also longer guided trips available for the enthusiastic walker, some overnight.
This area is a paradise for mountain biking and at several places you can hire ATB’s for a trip.
Close by the Quinta do Retiro there are several stables, where under tuition you can learn to ride a horse and/or take part in either a long or short excursion on horseback.
In Viseu, about 75 km (approx 46 miles) away there is a large well designed 18 hole golf course.
In Oliveira do Hospital you can play a game of tennis at the municipal tennis courts. Also you can hire courts for a game at Poussada Convento do Desagravo in Vila Pouca de Beira.
Mountain sports, Canoeing and Kayaking
Because we lie between the two rivers Mondego and Alva there is ample opportunity in the neighbourhood for canoeing and kayaking. For mountain climbing and abseiling, those of you who thrill to these adventurous activities, can do so by contacting Matt Toy of Rock & River or O Pioneiro do Mondego (kayaking).
On our property we have installed a magnificent ecofriendly swimming pool, but for those who want something different they can visit one of the man made enormous storage reservoirs in the Serra Estrela or find one of the many places to swim from the river banks. For a day on the beach on the Atlantic coast (90km away) there are beautiful resort areas with many inviting beaches. Such as Mira, Figueira da Foz, Tocha en Aveiro. Praia do Palheirao (between Mira and Tocha) and Praia de Cova-Gala (to the south of the beach of Cova) are quiet, undisturbed beaches where also naturism is allowed.
